Se mi conoscete almeno un po’ saprete che una delle mie più grandi passioni è cantare. Forse saprete che la mia non è solo una famiglia ma è anche un piccolo coro, ed è da quando siamo piccoli che io e i miei fratelli cantiamo assieme ai nostri genitori in chiesa, o a manifestazioni varie. A me poi il palcoscenico piace...sono felicissima se posso esibirmi in qualche canzone dal vivo!
Negli ultimi anni in Italia inoltre avevo iniziato a cantare in un coro grazie al quale non solo ho vissuto delle fantastiche avventure, ma dove ho trovato anche dei cari amici: il Gruppo Vocale Banshees. Una maggioranza di donne e qualche uomo guidati dalla maestra Miriam, con un originale e a mio avviso bellissimo repertorio medievale. Cantavamo alle rievocazioni storiche, abbiamo fatto concerti ma abbiamo anche cantato repertori più classici durante le messe ai matrimoni, con il nostro vestito bianco e le coroncine di fiori...è davvero un bel ricordo ripensare a queste esperienze!
E’ stato naturale quindi accogliere l’opportunità di unirsi ad un coro anche qui nella mia nuova vita in Spagna. In verità non sono nemmeno dovuta andare a cercarmela perché il maestro è proprio il mio amico Miguel Ángel. Tutto nasce dal progetto, che è ancora in fase di costruzione, di creare un quartetto assieme anche ad Hellen e ad un altro amico per poi offrirsi di cantare ai matrimoni o ad altre cerimonie speciali e guadagnare qualche extra. E’ per questo che già subito dopo la fine della quarantena quest’estate abbiamo iniziato a provare e a mettere insieme un repertorio.
Con la riapertura delle scuole infine mi sono ritrovata catapultata in questa nuova avventura, far parte del coro della “Escuela Municipal de Música & Artes” detta in maniera abbreviata “EMMA”. Anche se ancora non conosco quasi nessuno, l’atmosfera mi è decisamente famigliare. Cantiamo in un aula con distanziamento, mascherine e porte e finestre aperte, almeno fino a quando sarà permesso. Iniziamo sempre con il riscaldamento della voce e poi ripassiamo i vari pezzi. Abbiamo una pagina internet privata dove caricati ci sono tutti gli spartiti e gli audio dei brani suddivisi per varie voci e ognuno deve esercitarsi a casa per imparare la parte. Io continuo a destreggiarmi tra soprano e contralto dove c’è bisogno come ai vecchi tempi. Si respira un clima di semi-professionalità ma poi in realtà si ride e si scherza anche durante le prove. Tutti sembrano buoni amici.
Il sabato appena passato abbiamo finalmente avuto l’occasione di poter cantare e lo abbiamo fatto ad una messa nella stupenda Cattedrale della città, officiata dal Vescovo. Io non sono cattolica e non ho mai partecipato a molte funzioni religiose, ma questa è stata diversa da tutte quelle che avevo visto in precedenza. Cominciando dal fatto che è durata quasi due ore! (Sì, troppo…) Noi eravamo proprio seduti nel coro, di fronte all’altare alle spalle della congregazione, immersi in una nuvola di incenso. C’è stato qualche momento di incertezza perché il Vescovo più di una volta ha improvvisato rispetto al programma ma è stato divertente e abbiamo cantato bene.
Un po’ per la novità ma soprattutto a causa della pandemia, la mia possibilità di relazione sociale è stata finora piuttosto limitata e rallentata. E’ per questo motivo che sono davvero contenta per questa esperienza e per quelle che potranno venire in futuro. Certo, ci vorrà pazienza perché di fronte a noi abbiamo sicuramente altri mesi di restrizioni, ma un giorno o l’altro ne verremo fuori e un poco alla volta è anche con queste piccole cose ci costruiamo un futuro.
La musica era uno dei miei principali obiettivi venendo qui e anche se non nel modo che mi ero immaginata, sono contenta di avere occasioni per poterla includere nella mia vita.
Let's Sing! (English Version)
If you know me a little bit, you will know that singing is one of my favorite things. Maybe you also know that mine is not only a family but also a small choir. Me and my brothers sing with my parents since we were children, at church or in other special occasions. And I really like the stage...so I’m always very happy if I can perform some live songs!
During last years I spent in Italy I also had started to sing in a choir which allowed me to live very wonderful moments, but also where I met some dear friends: the name was “Gruppo Vocale Banshees”. Mostly women and some men, directed by Miriam with an original and super beautiful medieval repertoire. We sang at historical re-enactments, we made concerts but also sang more classical songs during weddings ceremonies with our white dress and crowns of flowers…thinking back at those moments it is really a good memory!
So it was very natural welcoming the opportunity to join a choir also in my new life here in Spain. To tell the truth I didn’t have to go find one because the director is my friend Miguel Ángel. All starts from a project we have to build a quartet also with Hellen and another friend to go sing at weddings or other occasions and earn some extra money. That’s why we started our new repertoire just at the end of the quarantine this past summer.
And now, after the re-opening of schools, I found myself launched in this new adventure, being part of the choir of the “Escuela Municipal de Música & Artes” called also “EMMA”. Even if I don’t know almost anyone yet, the atmosphere is without any doubts very familiar. We sing keeping distance and wearing masks, with open doors and windows. We always begin warming up the voice with some exercises and then we study the songs together. There is a private web page where we have all the sheets with the music and the audio divided in the different voices and everyone has to practice home to be ready when we have the rehearsal. I keep changing between soprano and alto like I did in the past. It could seem we are serious when we practice but in the end we always talk and laugh. Everyone seems to be good friends.
Last Saturday we finally had the occasion to sing and we did it at a Catholic mass in the amazing Cathedral of the city, officiated by the Bishop. I am not catholic and I did not took part to many of their religious ceremonies, but this has been different from all I had seen before, starting with the fact that it lasted two hours! (Yes, a little too much…) We were sit in the choir, in front of the altar and behind the congregation immersed in a cloud of incense. There have been some uncertain moments because the Bishop liked to improvise, but it was fun and we sang good.
Because it’s something new, but mostly because of the pandemic, my possibilities to make social relations has been quite limited and slowed down. That’s why I’m very happy for this experience and for the one which can come in the future. Of course we will need patience, because we have for sure some other months of restrictions in front of us, but sooner or later this will end and little by little it’s also with these small things that we are building our future.
Music was one of my main goals for this year and, even if not in the way I was expecting, I am happy that I have opportunities to include it in my life.
