Stiamo imparando a nostre spese di come stare così tanto chiusi in casa possa essere duro. Io personalmente finisco per impigrirmi, per annoiarmi, perdere tempo e alla fine queste cose poco a poco mi spengono. Da quando ho iniziato a stare un po’ meglio, mi costringo a uscire almeno un’ora tutti i giorni per andare a camminare. Vado sul lungomare, in centro, cammino per i parchi o per i giardini, ma poi alla fine sono sempre gli stessi posti. Avevo bisogno di una ventata d’aria fresca.
Ho trovato per caso su Instagram la pagina del giardino botanico de “La Almunya del Sur”. Mi ha colpito subito lo stile Andalusí del complesso e questa settimana sono finalmente riuscita a visitarlo! Sono partita con il bus alle nove di mattina verso il centro di El Ejido, uno dei più grandi comuni dell’entroterra a ovest di Almería. Avevo una coincidenza da prendere ma ho perso il piccolo bus di linea che mi avrebbe portato nella zona piuttosto sperduta dove è situato il giardino. Avevo già abbandonato l’idea di andare e stavo valutando altre opzioni, fino a quando a pochi metri dalla fermata ho visto la postazione di un taxi…
Nel mezzo di una zona agricola, tra molte file di “invernaderos” di plastica, si trova l’entrata del giardino. Diciamo che se uno non sa che c’è, è molto, molto difficile da trovare. Il costo della visita è di 5 euro. Suono il campanello e un signore gentile mi fa entrare. Al di là del grigio cancello, c’è un vero e proprio mondo verde segreto!
La sensazione iniziale è quella di essere entrata in un mondo bizzarro e stranamente caotico. La visita è libera, c’è un sentiero la cui direzione è indicata da frecce rosse fatte in legno. Accanto ad alcune delle piante più grandi, ci sono dei cartelli e delle placche che le identificano e ne indicano le proprietà, ma per lo più io ne vedo a centinaia, di diverso tipo che a prima vista sembrano un po’ buttate lì a caso. Quando il proprietario mi lascia, io mi ritrovo sola nel mezzo di una folta natura. Abbasso la mascherina e mi lascio invadere da un’ondata di profumi. Ascolto. Sento solo gli uccellini cinguettare e lo scorrere d’acqua in lontananza. Mi guardo intorno, è un po’ strano e non so bene cosa dovrei fare. Tiro fuori il cellulare e inizio a fare qualche foto un po’ a caso...man mano che mi addentro però, la sensazione di stupore svanisce lasciando spazio a una vera e propria meraviglia.
La Almunya del Sur, nasce a livello privato su una proprietà di famiglia. Il signor Carlos Collado Pérez (che scopro poi essere colui che mi ha accolto), inizia a trasformarlo in un giardino botanico nel 2000 con l’aiuto del suo socio Manuel Sánchez Robles e in seguito nel 2016 il giardino apre al pubblico. In pratica si entra nel retro di una casa vera in stile rurale Andalusí e forse è per questo che ci si sente un po’ straniti inizialmente. Nel giardino ci sono più di 1600 specie diverse su una superficie di 2500 m2 che provengono da tutti e cinque i continenti. Camminando ci ritroviamo pertanto a ad entrare in diverse piccole aree tematiche ricreate in maniera semplice.
Per primo posso notare alcune delle tipiche caratteristiche del giardino di ispirazione ispano-moresca. La casetta in pietra con i muri azzurri e le finestre gialle, i cactus e le piante grasse, le fontane e le lanterne con quell’aria un po’ mediorientale. Poco più avanti una gnoma dalla faccia birbona ci dà il benvenuto a Hobbiville. Eh si, c’è proprio la casetta dalla porta tonda dello Hobbit Bilbo Baggins, che sembra uscita fuori dal film del Signore degli Anelli e così mi fermo per cercare di farmi qualche foto! (Ecco quando mi servirebbe un fotografo…)
Nascosto tra verdi arbusti, c’è poi un ruscello che nasce da una piccola fonte dove veglia la statua di un Buddha. Un vero angolino di pace e freschezza. La parte che colpisce di più però è il giardino in stile giapponese. Uno stagno con un ponticello di legno rosso e in fondo alcune panche per sedersi e godersi il panorama. Devo stare attenta a non calpestare una ranocchia che salta in acqua spaventata dal mio arrivo. Mi siedo un attimo ad ammirare il panorama e a godermi la tranquillità del momento.
Incontro tanti altri piccoli angolini incantati. La carriola con i fiori, le piante tropicali, l’angolo dei cactus (io li adoro), lo stagno con le calle e i pesci rossi. Ho fatto più di 200 foto in un’ora e mezza e non sono nemmeno la metà di quelle che mi sarebbe piaciuto fare, ma già scegliere tra quelle quali pubblicare oggi è stata un’ardua impresa!
Alla fine del giro si accede al patio centrale dove sono situati dei tavoli e dove il proprietario mi offre una limonata con la menta e due biscottini. Eccolo ora sì che posso ammirare il giardino in tutta la sua caotica bellezza! Quello che sembra casuale, è in realtà ben studiato e curato nel modo più eco-sostenibile possibile. Ci sono molte altre cose che ho visto ma non ho tempo di citare, vi consiglio se mai vi troverete da queste parti, di investire un paio d’ore per godere di questa bellezza e di questa natura senza tempo anche perché, vista l’aridità climatica di questa zona, vi darà la possibilità di respirare in una piccola oasi verde.
Mi ci è voluta qualche ora di viaggio in autobus, ho dovuto districarmi tra cambi di linee, orari e qualche imprevisto, e nell’attesa ho anche pranzato al sacco nel parcheggio di un centro commerciale, ma è stato bello uscire di casa, vedere una zona nuova e sentirmi di nuovo un po’ una turista. Mi manca viaggiare, visitare e scoprire ed è per questo che oggi mi sono sentita subito ispirata a scrivere un post.
La natura è magica. La natura incontaminata è meravigliosa, ma spesso anche il modo in cui l’uomo riesce ad interagire con essa può creare posti davvero incantati. Vorrei che questa sensazione di scoperta e di avventura non finisse mai. Non scrivo solo per raccontare e descrivere posti che si possono visitare, scrivo soprattutto per esternare dei sentimenti. Addentrarsi in un giardino come quello del Almunya del Sur è un po’ come addentrarsi in un’anima. Non ci sono mai solo le cose che si notano in superficie, ma ce ne sono migliaia di piccole, di nascoste, di segrete le quali contribuiscono allo stesso modo alla sua identità.
Forse siamo tutti un po’ come questo giardino, un’oasi verde nascosta da un mare di plastica. Vale la pena ogni tanto fermarci e lavorare per ritrovarci. E ci ricorderemo di quanto siamo meravigliosi.
THE SECRET GARDEN (English Version)
We are learning the hard way how staying locked in house can be difficult. I personally end up getting lazy, bored, wasting time and in the end all of these things are turning me off. Since I started feeling a little better, I force myself to go out at least an hour every day to go for a walk. I walk along the promenade, in the center, I walk through the parks or the gardens, but then in the end they are always the same places. I needed a breath of fresh air.
I found the page of the botanic garden “La Almunya del Sur” searching trough my Instagram suggestions. I really liked the Andalusian style of the place and last week I finally could visit it! I left with the bus at 9 in the morning towards the center of El Ejido, on of the biggest towns in the west hinterlands of Almería. I had a connection to take, but I lost the small bus that should have been take me in the remote area where the garden is found. I almost already abandoned the idea to go and I was considering other options, but then I saw a taxi station some meters further…
In the middle of an agricultural area, between many lines of plastic “invernaderos” you can find the entrance of the garden. We can say that if are not looking for this place, this is very hard to find. The cost is of 5 euros. I rang the bell and a kind men let me in. Beyond the grey gate, there is a real secret green world!
The initial feeling is to enter in a very bizarre world, weirdly chaotic. The visit is free, there is a pathway and the direction is indicated by some small red wooden arrows. Next to some of the most important plants, there are some tags which identify them and explain some of their properties, but what I see most is hundreds of plants of different types that at first sight can seem put there randomly. When the owner leaves me, I find myself alone in the middle of a bushy nature. I lower the mask and let the wave of spring perfumes fill myself. I listen. Just birds singing and some water flowing in the distance. I look around, it’s a little strange and I don’t really understand what I should do. I take my phone and start to make some pictures...but as I walk into the garden, this feeling fades away and leave space to a real state of wonder.
“Almunya del Sur” borns on a private family property. Carlos Collado Pérez (that I found out is the man who let me in), begins to transform it in a botanical garden in year 2000 with the help of his partner Manuel Sánchez Robles and then in 2016 it opens to the public. So we enter in the back of a real rural Andalusian house and maybe that’s why we can feel a little strange in the beginning. In the garden there are more then 1600 different species on a 2500 m2 surface, coming from all over the five continents. Walking along, we find ourselves in various themed areas created in a simple but very nice way.
First I can notice some typical features of the Hispano-Moorish garden. The little house with blue walls and yellow windows, cactus and fat plants, fountains and some lanterns with a very middle eastern touch. Then a nice lady gnome welcomes us to Hobbitton. Ah yeah, there is just the house with the rounded door of the Hobbit Bilbo Baggins which seems to have came out from the Lord of the Rings movie. So I stop by and try to take me some pictures! (That’s when I would need a photographer…)
Hidden within green shrubs, there is a nice creek which came out from a small fount where a young Buddha is watching over silently. A really fresh and peaceful corner. But what impresses most is the Japanese style garden. A pond with a red wooden bridge and some benches to sit down and enjoy the quiet and the view. I have to be careful not to walk on a frog which jumps in the water scared by my arrival. I sit down for a moment just to feel this peaceful sensation.
I found some other enchanted places. The wheelbarrow with flowers, tropical plants, the corner with a lot of cactus (which I love), the pond with callas and red fishes. I made more than 200 photos in an hour and a half and I could have done a lot more but really choosing between them which to post has been hard enough already!
At the end of the visit I reach the central patio where the owner offers me some mint lemonade with cookies. Now I can really admire the garden in all its wonderful beauty! What seems casual is actually well researched and cared for in the most eco-sustainable way possible. There are a lot more things I saw I don’t have time to write but if you will ever be around here, I suggest you to spend a couple of hours in this timeless beautiful nature even because, in this arid area, it will give you the chance to breathe in a small green oasis.
It took me a few hours to travel by bus, I had to extricate myself between changes of lines, schedules and some unexpected adventures, and while waiting I also had a packed lunch in the parking of a shopping center, but it was nice to leave the house, see a new area and feel like a tourist again. I miss traveling, visiting and discovering and that's why today I immediately felt inspired to write a post.
Nature is magical. Uncontaminated nature is wonderful, but often also the way in which man manages to interact with it can create truly enchanted places. I wish this feeling of discovery and adventure would never end. I don't write only to tell and describe places that can be visited, I write mainly to express my feelings. Entering a garden like that of Almunya del Sur is a bit like entering a soul. There are never just the things that are noticeable on the surface, but there are thousands of small, hidden, secret ones which contribute in the same way to its identity.
Maybe we all are a bit like this garden, a green oasis hidden in a plastic sea. It’s worthy sometimes to stop and work to find ourselves again. And we will remember how much wonderful we are.
